Twenty four boats signed up for this Memorial Day weekend tournament at Castaic. The majority of the field veered right and planed out their boats heading for the choice spots on the fishing arm. Dry Gulch was open for the first time in months and many thought this would be the place to score a good limit. Not being one who follows the crowds, Bill Siemantel, fishing without his partner Troy Lindner, opts for staying on the ski arm and the waters less traveled. This proves to have been the right choice as Bill hauls in a 24.95 lb. Limit that included the tourna- ment Big Bass weighing 8.63lbs. His efforts (netted) him a check for $2201. In 2 nd place were the team of Mike Hart and John (Zank) Viazanko. The 2 nd place finish was a true sign of fishing consistency since their 16.48 lb limit did not have a big fish in the top 3. It was “just” a big bag of quality fish.

Rounding out the top three was the team of Donnie Peterson and Doug Browning with a limit weighing in at 15.14 lbs. This bag includ- ed tournament 3rd. place Big Bass weighing 4.28 lbs. Donnie is one of our sponsors who donates gift certificates every tournament to help out his fellow competitors with boat hull work or custom painting. 4 th place went to the team of Walt Kondracki and David Handy, bringing a 13.13 lb. limit to the scales. 5 th place honors went to Nelson brothers, with Bobby and Billy stepping up to the scales with a 12.89 limit. The team of A.C. newcomers Ken Gwynn and Kevin Jones won our Mystery Weight winning of $460. Also noteworthy was the 2 nd Place Big Bass of 4.29 that was weighed in by the team of Nick Langer and Matt Friedrichsen. Nick’s company, Langer Insurance, is also a sponsor for the Castaic Trail and I greatly appreciate his generous help with the Trophies. Congratulations and thanks to all that participated Special thanks to our staff, Mark Poulson, Kathey Hartman, Brendon Widick and my wife Donna for helping to put on these events.
